How I spent my COVID-19 Summer of 2020
2020 has brought many obstacles to our world. As a young college student, I understood the seriousness of the matter, but I was not fond of the idea of not being at school with all my friends to wrap up junior year. Although, it is what needed to be done in order to do our part in reducing the spread of the virus. I, among all my friends and peers, had so many questions. What does this mean for jobs and internships in the summer? What will online learning be like? We’ll definitely be back in the fall though…right? I had a lot of questions (and still do), but most remained unanswered due to the uncertainty of the situation. This was an important summer for me to get an internship in a bustling city and be pushed out of my comfort zone in order to grow and acquire new skills.
However, with Covid, all my internships were cancelled. The last thing I wanted to do was sit all summer and mope. So, I took action. I signed up for a summer class called Social Media and Management; I worked on my business, Culinary Sprouts, and offered virtual cooking classes; I received a last-minute virtual internship with a startup based in Winston-Salem called iScribble; I studied for the GRE; and I even picked up piano again, after taking a 3-year hiatus.
I knew this summer was going to be different, but I wanted to make sure I did everything in my power to keep myself busy with meaningful tasks that would continue to foster my learning.
